Brussels Griffon

Welcome to Dragonflygriff

DragonflyGriff specializes in breeding Brussels Griffon dogs. Originally a cat breeder, we discovered the griffon a couple of years ago and immediately fell in love with the breed. Their loving little “Ewok” face and big-little temper make them the ideal companion for caring humans. They will follow you everywhere and are alert, sociable, and easy to train dogs.

Brussels Griffon features

The Brussels Griffon originated from breeding the Affenpinscher and the Belgian street dog. Breeders also used the Carlin and the Cavalier King Charles to create variation in the standard. There are three types of Griffons: the Belge, the Bruxellois, and the Petit Brabançon.You either fall head over heels for the breed or totally dislike it.

Brussels Griffons are an excellent pet breed. Their love for humans knows no bounds. This breed can be described as alert, sociable, and easily trained. They are almost human, and even when they give you the “stink eye,” it’s endearing!

With this breed, you get a big personality in a 5 to 15-pound package! Griffs come in four colors: red; black and reddish-brown (called belge); black and tan; and black. They have smooth coats like a pug or rough coats like a Schnauzer. Their black muzzle and whiskers earned them the nickname “bearded dogs” in old folks’ songs. The Griff’s body is thickset and sturdy, and he moves with the purposeful trot of a fellow who knows what he wants.

They exude a noticeable sense of self-importance.

Although playful and energetic, Griffs’ small size and sensitive nature make them a poor choice as roughhousing playmates for kids. They have a low threshold for loneliness and will stick close to their special human, providing years of love and laughter. Griffs are super affectionate and sensitive, which is why we also call them Velcro dogs.

Brussels Griffon temper

Griffs have huge hearts and love to cuddle! This is the best part of their day! One look into their big human-like eyes and you’ll be smitten. Griffons should not be shy or aggressive, but they are very emotionally sensitive; because of this, they should be socialized carefully from a very young age. Griffs should also be alert, inquisitive, and interested in their surroundings.

Griffons tend to bond with one human more than others. In fact, They are very good with children, provided they are not teased. They are not patient but love to play. Griffons tend to get along well with other animals in the house, including cats, ferrets, and other dogs. However, they can get into trouble because they have no concept of their own relative size and may attempt to dominate dogs much larger than themselves.

Brussels Griffon General Health

Despite being a toy breed, Griffons are very active. They have relatively few inherited health problems but should still be tested for congenital defects, the most serious of which are syringomyelia (SM) and chiari-like malformation (CM). The typical lifespan of a Griffon ranges from 10 to 15 years.

Although Griffs have a shortened snout, heat strokes are not a major concern for them, unlike other flat-faced breeds. The breed’s shortened muzzle may cause respiratory problems in extreme heat, but Griffs tolerate both hot and cold weather.

As with any breed, owners must use common sense. They should not leave their dogs outdoors without protection from the elements or subject them to rigorous exercise during extreme temperatures. Instead, they should be kept in the house for cool air and some water.

Are Griffons Brussel dogs hypoallergernic?

Brussels Griffons are not hypoallergenic. Their minimal shedding and unique coat can lead to lower allergen production compared to other dog breeds. That said, spending some time with the breed is the best way to understand how you personally react to the Brussels Griffon. Regular grooming can also help reduce allergens. Contact us for more information.

Do Brussels Griffon shed?

The Brussels Griffon is considered a low-shedding dog. They require minimal maintenance, such as regular brushing and occasional trimming. Their coat is smooth and wiry, so they don’t shed as much as other dog breeds. They are a perfect choice for those who complain about shedding.

Are Brussels Griffon brachycephalic?

Although Griffs have a shortened snout, heat stroke is not a major concern for them as it is for other flat-faced breeds. The breed’s shortened muzzle may cause respiratory problems in extreme heat , but overall they tolerate both hot and cold weather well. As with any breed, owners must use common sense and not leave them outdoors without protection from the elements or subject them to rigorous exercise during extreme temperatures. Instead, let them inside for cool air and some water.

How big to they get?

With this breed, you get a big personality in a 5 to 15-pound package! Griffs come in four colors: red, black and reddish-brown (called belge), black and tan, and black. They have smooth coats , like a pug, or rough coats, like a Schnauzer. Their black muzzle and whiskers have earned them the nickname “bearded dogs” in old folk songs. Viral Garantee

Viral Health is guaranteed by Trupanion, a health insurance policy that covers any viral infections from the moment the puppy leaves the breeder’s possession.

Since vet fees have increased drastically in recent years, we strongly suggest subscribing to a health insurance policy that fits your budget.

We love Trupanion for everything they offer for the well-being of our little loved critters.

Our puppies are examined by our vet and have a clean bill of health.

The puppy, once in your possession, must be scanned for his microchip number, which is documented in all vet reports.

Since your puppy has only received age-appropriate vaccinations before going home with you, he is not fully immunized.
This is why we STRONGLY SUGGEST, avoiding complications and keeping him in a risk-free area.

Please AVOID taking him to a dog park, pet store, or pet training classes until your veterinarian confirms he is fully immune.

Congenital/Hereditary garantee

The puppy is guaranteed for one year from the date of sale against fatal congenital or hereditary  conditions.

No cosmetic issues are guaranteed.

Neglect or abuse will void any guarantee.

General contract clauses

Cash refunds are not available.

Our puppies are certified purebreds with the AKC registration.

Our home is certified Negative for Distemper, Parainfluenza, Parvovirus and Adenovirus, and so is the puppy.

We encourage potential buyers to do their homework and research the breed before committing to a puppy to ensure it will fit their lifestyle.

Brussel Griffons are wonderful dogs, but like any other breed, they are not for everyone. We will gladly assist you if you have questions or need more information.

Our right as breeder
