The 3-3-3 Rule
Animals, like humans, experience strong emotions during major changes, such as moving into a new home. You can make transitions smoother for everyone by following the 3-3-3 Rule.
3 days – 3 weeks – 3 months
3 days: During the first few days in a new environment, your animal may be disoriented, nervous, or overwhelmed. Let them come to you and explore their new surroundings at their own pace. Provide a calm environment, and above all, don’t jump to conclusions about your new companion’s personality, as they’re not yet “themselves”.
Over the next three weeks, your new pet will begin to reveal his personality and come to understand that he is in a safe environment with you. This is the ideal time to start socializing and training your companion while you monitor his needs and pay close attention to his body language. He is settling into his home and building a trusting relationship with you.
The Golden Rule: Ignore unwanted behaviour and reward desired behaviour.
3 months: This is how long it will take for your animal to adapt and build trust with you. At this point, they will feel relaxed and comfortable being themselves! Always maintain a positive attitude and provide them with physical and mental activities every day.
Congratulations on welcoming a new family member!
Every animal is unique and grows and changes in its own way. Be attentive to your pet’s needs, and you will be amazed by the bond of trust you build with him.
