A small dog that fits New Jersey family life

New Jersey families juggle a lot: commutes into Manhattan or Philadelphia, school runs, sports practices and weekends at the Shore. Many of the families who contact us are looking for a dog that is small enough for a townhouse or a Hudson River condo, but with enough personality to be a true member of the family. The Brussels Griffon checks both boxes.

In the suburbs of Bergen, Essex, Morris or Monmouth County, a fenced yard is a bonus, but a Griffon does not need one. Short walks around the block, indoor games and time on your lap matter far more to this breed. Families with children appreciate its playful side, and we are always happy to talk honestly about whether a toy breed suits your household.

We welcome families throughout the Garden State, including:

  • Jersey City
  • Hoboken
  • Newark
  • Montclair
  • Morristown
  • Hackensack
  • Paramus
  • Princeton
  • Trenton
  • Edison
  • Red Bank
  • Toms River
  • Cherry Hill

Brussels Griffons and families with children

The Brussels Griffon is a sturdy little toy dog, typically 7 to 12 lb, with a cheerful, curious nature and a face full of expression. It bonds closely with its family and loves to be involved in everything. With respectful children who know how to handle a small dog gently, a Griffon can be a wonderful playmate and a loyal friend.

Because it is small, we recommend supervising young children, teaching them to sit down before holding the puppy and giving the dog a quiet place to rest. Our puppies are used to gentle handling by people of all ages, which gives them a good head start. As a short-muzzled breed, a Griffon also appreciates shade and air conditioning during New Jersey’s humid summer days.

Yes. We are located near Montreal, Quebec, and we welcome families from all over New Jersey, from Hudson County to South Jersey. We plan your puppy’s arrival together and confirm the details at reservation.

What does it take to bring a puppy from Canada to New Jersey?

U.S. rules currently require dogs entering the United States to be at least 6 months old, microchipped, and accompanied by a CDC Dog Import Form receipt. We confirm the latest requirements with you and plan the timing together, so your puppy arrives older and well socialized.

Is a Brussels Griffon good with kids?

A Griffon can be a great family dog with respectful children who handle it gently. Because it is a toy breed, we recommend supervision with young kids and giving the dog a calm place to rest.

Does a Griffon need a yard in the New Jersey suburbs?

No. A yard is nice, but a Brussels Griffon is perfectly happy in a condo or townhouse with daily walks, indoor play and lots of time with its family.

What comes with a Brussels Griffon puppy?
