Devon Rex Breeder New York and the Surrounding Area

New York is one of the places we hear from most, and it makes sense. DragonflyCats has been a Devon Rex breeder for more than 15 years near the Canadian Border, and we place kittens with families in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens; on Long Island; and up through Westchester and the Hudson Valley.

Each kitten grows up in our family home alongside other cats and dogs, and leaves spayed or neutered, TICA-registered, vaccinated, microchipped and genetically screened, with its health records and a Royal Canin starter kit.

Devon Rex kittens for New York apartments and homes

New York City is roughly 380 miles from us, so your kitten comes to you rather than the other way around. We handle the paperwork and health certificates and organize the trip with you, confirming every detail at reservation. Shipping is charged separately, and any customs or brokerage fees fall to the buyer.

A cat has an advantage over a dog in this city: it never needs to go outside. No 6 a.m. walk in February, no elevator wait, no sidewalk in August. For a fourth-floor walk-up in Astoria or a studio in the West Village, that changes the whole equation. What a Devon Rex does need is your company and something to climb, which a New York apartment can supply in vertical feet rather than square ones.

One piece of local advice we give every New York family: check your window screens before your kitten arrives. Devon Rex cats are curious, athletic and completely undeterred by heights, and an unsecured window in a high-rise is the one real danger in an otherwise very safe indoor life.

We welcome families from across the state, including:

  • Manhattan
  • Brooklyn
  • Queens
  • The Bronx
  • Staten Island
  • Yonkers
  • New Rochelle
  • White Plains
  • Long Island
  • Hempstead
  • Poughkeepsie
  • Albany
  • Buffalo
  • Rochester

The apartment cat that acts like it signed the lease

The Devon Rex has an unusual relationship with people for a cat. It follows you room to room, sits on your shoulder while you cook, comes when called more often than not and will absolutely join a video call. In a small apartment where you and your cat are rarely more than fifteen feet apart, that temperament is the difference between a pet and a roommate you actually like.

City noise is a smaller issue than new owners expect. Our kittens grow up in a busy household with other animals, visitors and the ordinary racket of family life, so sirens and upstairs neighbors register as background rather than threat. The short, wavy coat helps in another way: a Devon Rex sheds very little, which matters in a home where the sofa, the bed and the closet share one room. Low shedding is not the same as hypoallergenic, though — no cat is — so if anyone in the household reacts to cats, tell us before you reserve.

Bringing your kitten home to New York

Once your reservation is in place, we plan the trip together. The rules for bringing a cat into the United States are not the rules for a dog, and they are revised from time to time, so we verify what applies at that moment, assemble the paperwork and health certificates, and set the timing around it. Nothing is left to the last minute.

Shipping is quoted on top of the price of the kitten, and the balance falls due two weeks before departure. Your kitten reaches you with its health records, registration papers, a Royal Canin starter kit and 30 days of Trupanion coverage already running. We remain reachable afterward for whatever comes up — settling in, feeding, litter habits.

Frequently asked questions

Do you place Devon Rex kittens with families in New York?

Yes. We are located near Montreal and place kittens with families throughout New York State, from the five boroughs to Long Island, Westchester and upstate. We prepare the paperwork and health certificates and plan the transport with you.

What is involved in bringing a kitten into New York?

We verify what applies, compile the paperwork and health certificates, and schedule the trip accordingly.

Is a Devon Rex a good cat for a New York City apartment?

It's one of the best choices. It lives entirely indoors, sheds very little and is social enough to be genuine company in a small space. Give it a tall cat tree and a window perch and it will be content.

Will my Devon Rex be lonely while I'm at work?

This breed dislikes long stretches alone more than most cats do. Many of our New York families adopt two, or already have a cat or a dog at home. If you're out for long days, it's worth discussing with us before you reserve.

How do I reserve a Devon Rex kitten from New York?

Reserve an available kitten with a 30% deposit, or join the paid waiting list ($500) for priority choice on upcoming litters, first come first served. Deposits are non-refundable and non-transferable.
