Living with a Brussels Griffon: the velcro dog

Brussels Griffons weigh roughly 3 to 5 kg (7 to 12 lb) and have an expressive, almost human-like face that wins people over instantly. Their personality is big: they are alert, funny, and deeply attached to their people, which is why they are often called Velcro dogs. They do best with families who are home for a good part of the day, and they tend to follow you from room to room.

Their coat can be rough or smooth, and both types are easy to manage with regular brushing. As a brachycephalic (short-muzzled) breed, Griffons are heat-sensitive, so humid Montreal summers call for early-morning walks, shade and plenty of fresh water. In winter, a snug coat makes sidewalk outings much more comfortable. Learn more on our Brussels Griffon page.

Frequently asked questions

How long have Dragonflycats been breeding Brussels Griffons?

DragonflyCats started breeding Brussels Griffons back in 2019. We have been breeding cats for more than 15 years. Families on the island, in Laval, and on the North and South Shores can welcome their puppy without shipping, and we plan the handover together.

Is a Brussels Griffon a good dog for a Montreal apartment or condo?

Yes. Griffons are small and adapt very well to apartment living, as long as they get daily walks, playtime and plenty of company. They do not enjoy being left alone for long hours.

How do I keep my Griffon comfortable during Montreal summers and winters?

Because of their short muzzle, avoid exercise on hot, humid days and keep them cool indoors. In winter, a dog coat and shorter outings help keep them comfortable.

What comes with a Brussels Griffon puppy?

Every puppy comes with AKC limited registration, age-appropriate vaccination, a microchip, a Royal Canin starter kit, health records, 30-day Trupanion insurance, Embark genetic testing and a 1-year congenital and hereditary warranty.

How do I reserve a Brussels Griffon puppy?

You can reserve an available puppy with a 30% deposit or join our paid waiting list ($500) for priority choice on upcoming litters, first come, first served. Deposits are non-refundable and non-transferable.
